A wise man once said,
No one dies in 2016. They escape.
One way or another, that’s my plan.
When I arrived at Walmart at 6am the line was 23 deep (memorable because the store had 24 to sell). Unfortunately though, they only had 2 extra controllers for sale. All the other stores I visited had roughly the same numbers, the exception being Bestbuy which had 36 and not one controller.
My review? It’s a very small NES with 30 classic games preloaded for under 100 clams. Colors, gameplay, and sound are great. It’s awesome!
To the online reviews saying it needs ‘this and that’. Bugger off and stop complaining.
And to the online reviewers saying the 2 1/2' controller cables are too short, I think you’ve missed the point. The controller cables are just the right length, it’s the HDMI and power cables that are too short. When playing a game you must press the reset button to return to the main menu to select a different game. You’re forced to look down at the cute little box on your coffee table. Something special happens.

I was shocked at how much news this got over the Atari Flashback and @games Sega units that have been around forever.
I’ve still got my NES collection so I don’t need this guy (I’m sure it’s good) but I love the mini Sega console...plus the Sega has a working cartridge slot and controller ports so expandable.

I get that. I fall into the other camp in an extreme way. When the Super NES was released I was turning 17 and moved away from video games altogether. My NES was the last console I really played. I needed this.

Well I hope you’re happy. You’ve fucked the timeline by bringing a 2016 TV back to 1985. This may explain why Biff Tannen is now moving into the White House.

It looks like it doesn’t have a mode to run in widescreen? Is that the case? If so, big bummer.

I managed to get one from GameStop.com, but it took almost an hour (I was up until 1:00 A.M.) as the site was crashing repetitively due to what I’m guessing is the sheer amount of people online. I didn’t get an extra controller, though. Dang it.

Sounds like you did pretty good though. I was up at 4am and was either in my car or in lineups until 10am (wanted to get a second one for a friend)
Those blasted controllers...
I’ve accepted my next mission.

Our TV is mounted high on the wall. I hope the HDMI it comes with is long enough, otherwise I’ll have to get a different one.

It came with a 5ft cable. Way too short. Bought a 15ft cable for the small space and have 1 foot extra for a TV at a reasonable distance from chesterfield and coffee table.
Edit: and added a 6ft standard USB extension cable for power.

They’d have to reprogram and fundamentally change gameplay to do that. Static games like Donkey Kong would still be 4:3. Sometimes laws can’t be overcome.
Please stop complaining.

They should make it so the games dont work until you lift the lid and blow just like I remember.

I got one too. I was #28 out of 32. I was at EB games at 9am (store opened 11:30am) Friday was a holiday here in Canada.
If I would of showed up 5 mins later I would of been too late.
It was pretty sweet tho. The staff was handing out timbits and hot chocolate to the lucky folks waiting. They handed out tickets to us so no one could cut the line to snag a system. If you had no ticket you weren’t getting one period.

I left out many details in the post. I only arrived at Walmart at 6am after scoping out Bestbuy and EB Games at 5am.
As I mentioned, I was the last to get one at Walmart. A friend of mine arrived 5 min after I did and 10 min after he arrived they handed out the tickets (That was an uncomfortable moment). He then raced out to a Walmart in a smaller municipality. He texted and told me he was 16 in a line of 18. He also said he got one of the 3 controllers. Can’t wait to see him to ask how that happened.
After I got my system I still wanted to get a controller and a second system for another friend, so I went to Bestbuy. Arrived at 7:30 and waited until 10. Got the second system but still no controller...
Knowing EB Games didn’t open until 11:15, I ran over as fast as I could. When I got there at 10:15 the line was 60 deep and no one had come out to tell the people anything. Feelings were mixed. I was disappointed I wouldn’t get a 2nd controller, but extremely thankful I had 2 systems in my trunk and hadn’t been standing in the last half of that line for hours.
I’m so very happy with it, and the fact I got one at all. An exciting morning!
Did you get a controller?

Please stop complaining.
After one question? Well that’s jumping to conclusions fast. Inquisitive means complaining, that’s new.
I’m asking because I don’t want burn-in. Knowing that it’s hooked up with HDMI, I can’t switch the formatting with my TV like I can with some OTA broadcasts. Plus, they did it with the GBA. You could use the shoulder buttons to switch between native and and a stretched mode to make use of the whole screen. Yes, it’s stretched which is not ideal, but at least it was something.
Screw it, maybe I should reasearch that Pi method instead. It’s just not as cute as the official piece.

I’m sorry I snapped at you. Really. I took your comment the wrong way after reading and hearing far too much of, “it needs this game”, and “it needs that game”, “games can’t be added”, and the whole cord length thing...
There is a burn-in reduction option, but I don’t think it will help much. after 10 or so minutes of not playing the screen dims. It’s something though.
Myself, I wouldn’t do the Pi thing. It’s neat, but not official. I’ve watched some side-by-sides with emulators and it’s night and day when it comes to picture quality.
Again, Sorry.

Haha, no worries. The internet, thick skin, it takes a lot more than that.
I haven’t played with any emulators since high school (this was when N64 emulators were just being developed and I certainly didn’t have a fast enough computer for that), but I remember them being pretty faithful to the real thing. It would probably satisfy my curiosity to play some of the old games without busting out my old consoles, though.
I like the idea of the official one for the fact that it will, of course, just work. No fuss. That part sounds great. And I have a super long HDMI cable, so the controller cords wouldn’t even be a big problem.

No just the system. By the time it was my turn there was no controllers,3rd party controllers, extender cables, ect. There was absolutely nothing left other than the system.
